It’s a fantastic way to see Hawaii without having to hop on and off planes. We had a marvelous time and I would highly recommend it. The Norwegian 7 Day Hawaiian Island Hopping cruise was great for those who have seasickness, since the boat stayed between islands and didn’t travel far out to sea. I highly recommend this cruise if you haven’t been to the islands before, or if you are wanting to experience the islands from a different view. The ability to visit multiple islands and not worry about traveling or getting to places on time made vacation really feel like a vacation. For those that aren’t into biking around volcanos, there are many other excursions available to choose from waterfall hikes, zipline tours, volcanic tours, Japanese gardens, and much more.
Land Vacations
It was also one of the most sparsely populated areas of the ship. In addition to the fitness center, water aerobics was offered at the pool. Most of the excursions we took were quite long and included lunch. Norwegian Cruise Line is known for their “freestyle” dining.
This wonderful cruise was $20 per person ($10 for children under 10) for a 90-minute roundtrip tour of the Wailua River. The main port of Honolulu is off the beaten path from the main city. We didn’t spend much time here as we wanted to board the ship early in order to find our rooms and get familiar with the ship, as this was our first cruising experience.
And once we reached our destination and were heading back to the states, those were the longest six days of my life. But that’s a circle cruise … I am imagine a one-way and then fly back/there or whatever would be different. Per the itinerary, you get about two days on the island of Maui, Big Island of Hawaii, and Kauai, which is a very reasonable amount of time to explore the islands’ main attractions. Exploring Oahu, which unquestionably is a must-do, you can either arrive a couple of days early in Oahu before boarding the cruise or explore Oahu upon returning from your cruise. One amazing itinerary - which only Norwegian offers. With the most time in port - nearly 100 hours - you can capture the pure spirit and soul of Hawaii each and every day that you're on an island.
Given that we just biked around a volcano, we chose to take a nap on the ship when we returned from the tour and stay on board for dinner. Our ship left the island at 6 pm that night as we headed to Kona, on the other side of the Big Island. In between that time, you spend the day visiting different areas of the ship, familiarizing yourself with the layout, spending time laying out by the pool deck, and grabbing a snack at the buffet by the pool. I think our server must have been stretched too thin. At the Teppanyaki restaurant, our chef put on a great show, but the food was just okay. The Pride of America offers plenty of restaurants and lounges to enjoy throughout the one-week itinerary. If you want a more upscale meal, they’ve got that, too.
